Every week The Device Files takes on the questions nobody else is writing plainly about: when a wearable becomes a regulated medical device, and who decides; whether wearable makers should set their own signal standards before regulators do; who is accountable when AI out-diagnoses the doctor; what it takes to commercialize a device and get it reimbursed; what happens when Apple, Samsung and Oura move deeper into regulated health.

The tables

Not the usual executive dinner.

The series exists because I wanted to keep the conversations from these pages going in person: a group of genuinely interesting people thinking big thoughts over an excellent meal. The point is an amazing evening for everyone at the table, so there are no pitches and nobody gets sold anything. We are there to enjoy each other’s company, and maybe make a few new friends across the convergence of consumer tech, AI, and medtech, with industry, investors, and practitioners in the room.

Each table is 15 to 20 people, invitation only, and every seat is chosen. The best threads usually find their way back into the essays and the podcast.

MedTech Malta draws an international crowd, over 2,000 people from Europe, North America and the Middle East: founders, investors and clinicians alike. This table seats founders identified by The Device Files with the investors and strategics who should know them.

Across the Grand Harbour from Valletta sit three neighborhoods known for their charm, their yachts and their history. We cross by water taxi to Birgu, wander the harbor, and settle in at Terrone, a local favorite for fresh seafood with a mention in the Michelin Guide, over a long lunch on the water.
